The Biscuit International Short Story Prize

The Countryside Tales Annual Short Story Competition

The West Country Writers’ Association Short Story
Competition
Closing date: 31 January 2009.
Prizes: The winner will receive £50 in cash and be invited to
spend 24 hours at the association’s next annual congress.
Entries can be on any subject or theme but must include the
phrase 'West Country' at least once. The entry fee is £5 per

Wind In The Willows Short Story

available to readers online for 12 months. Stories can be a

To celebrate the centenary of 'The Wind in the Willows' and its
enduring appeal, the River & Rowing Museum is inviting
submissions of new river-related stories for a young 21st
century audience. We're hoping to find a 'Wind in the Willows'
for our times. The competition is part of this year's Henley
Literary Festival.

Jane Austen Short Story Award 2009

three finalists will also win a week’s writers’ retreat at
Chawton House. Fifteen other shortlisted authors will receive

The competition celebrates the bicentenary of Jane Austen’s
arrival in the Hampshire village of Chawton where she spent the

Academy of Children's Writers 'Write a Story for
Children' Competition

Stories up to 2,000 words suitable for children of any age up

2009 Bristol Short Story Prize

Prizes: 1st £500 plus £150 Waterstone's gift card; 2nd £350
plus £100 Waterstone's gift card; 3rd £200 plus £100
Waterstone's gift card. A further 17 writers whose stories are
published in the Anthology will each receive a cheque for £50.
There is a £7 entry fee for each story submitted. Maximum
number of words is 3,000.
