The Poetry Society of Social Media & SMS, proudly announce the launch our first Micropoetry contest. Due to our excitement of the approaching London 2012 Olympics, our chosen theme is “The Olympics”. Poems can be no longer than 160 characters and MUST be about the Olympics in some way. Entrants can submit a maximum of 5 poems.

Entry fee:£3 per poem, £12 for 5 poems. £16 for 7 poems and £22 for 10 poems.
Donations to Charity: A third of net entry fees and all profits from the sale of the anthology will go to Diversity House a charity based in Sittingbourne, Kent, publishers of Swale Life magazine.
This competition is for previously unpublished poems in English Language, on any subject, in any style, up to 50 lines long (excluding title). Poems entered must not have been posted to any website or blog, and must not be under consideration for publication, or accepted for publication elsewhere.

The Battered Moons Poetry Competition
Closing date: 29th February 2012.
Prizes: First prize, £300; second, £150; third, £75. The 3 winners and 4 commended poets will be invited to read their poems at the Swindon Festival of Literature on Friday 11th May 2011, when Michael Symmons Roberts will hand out prizes and read his work. Winning and commended poems will appear in the Battered Moons Poetry Pamphlet and website.
Entry fee: £3 each poem or £10 for 4.
For poems up to 40 lines. Open to all UK residents 18 or over. The finals judge will be Michael Symmons Roberts, with Cristina Newton as preliminary judge. Supported by the Swindon Festival of Literature and Arts Council England.

2012 Cardiff International Poetry Competition
Closing date: 2nd March 2012
Prizes: The First Prize-winner will walk way with a cheque for £5,000 for just one poem. Further prizes available are £500 for second place, £250 for third plus five runners up will receive £50 each.
Entry fee: £6 per poem.

Poetry Inn Motion

Closing date: Last entry by 5pm on Thursday 1st December, 2011.
Prizes: Signed copies of Sir Andrew Motion's latest collection of poems, The Cinder Path, plus a meal for four including wine at your local Vintage Inns. Winning contributors also get a framed copy of the eventual eight line poem.
Entry fee: None - FREE
Overview: Former Poet Laureate Sir Andrew Motion will judge the best line submitted each week, so they can be added to gradually complete an eight-line poem. Weekly submissions will close on Thursdays at 5pm and the weekly winning line chosen by Sir Andrew Motion will be published the following Monday. The poem should be in rhyming couplets, so lines three and four should rhyme with each other - and so on.
