Write on Holiday
Writing Courses in the Sun
Dave Simpson and Diane Whitley are experienced writers who are running residential writing courses in Bodrum, Turkey, using some very high profile writers such as Willy Russell (Educating Rita/Shirley Valentine), Kay Mellor (Band of Gold/Playing the Field/Fat Friends), and others.
Dave & Diane write: We've now got our new season of courses advertised on our web site. We're doing things slightly differently this year. We're running three courses in Spring (plus two great-value Writers' Retreats) and a further three courses in Autumn.
After the success of last year, where the Willy Russell and Kay Mellor courses were over-subscribed, we intend to continue the policy of using only very high-profile, very experienced writers. Willy and Kay enjoyed their time in Bodrum so much they want to come back and we will be running courses by them either in the Autumn 2006 or Spring of the following year.
But for next Spring, we have asked STELLA DUFFY to run her course on "Starting to Write" for novels/short stories/drama. She's a brilliant course tutor, both inspiring, very funny and it will be a great week. This is followed by a TV course run by probably the number one television writer today, PAUL ABBOTT. Paul's award-winning series include "Shameless", "State of Play", "Linda Green" and "Clocking Off". This course will be booked up very quickly.
For the third week, we are running a unique course and for anyone starting to write drama, be it radio, theatre, television, children's drama, this is THE course. There will be THREE tutors, so that a ratio of 3-4 "students" to each tutor is guaranteed. No course on the planet offers such personal one-to-one. The tuturs are: AL HUNTER ASHTON, dramatist/actor/producer/director who is currently writing "EastEnders", "Holby City" and who has won awards for his single films, "Safe" and "The Firm", the Gary Oldman film about football hooligans. He will be supported by DIANE WHITLEY, writer/producer of four children's series for Granada, most recently "Girls in Love", and DAVE SIMPSON, with over 30 BBC radio plays to his credit and 15 stage productions including Number 1 tours and a West End run.
