  • All about writing books and stories for children: advice, how-to info, tips, messaging, research links and much more. Presented by Children's Book Insider, the newsletter for children's writers.
  • Provides online information for members and non-members. the scbwi acts as a network for the exchange of knowledge between writers, illustrators, editors, publishers, agents, librarians, educators, booksellers and others involved with literature for young people.
  • This site describes itself as: ‘an attempt to gather together and categorize the growing number of Internet resources related to books for Children and Young Adults. Much of the information that you can find through these pages is provided by others: fans, schools, libraries, and commercial enterprises involved in the book world’.
  • The Word Pool provides many things, including a list of titles aimed at children who don’t like to read. There are books on numeracy, Big Books for teachers on the problem of “can’t read, won’t read”, plus a section on writing for children. Hosted by Steve & Diana Kimpton, they also have a Directory of authors, illustrators and publishers of childrens’ books.
  • Colossal Directory of Publishers. A touch immodest? Perhaps not. It has a huge raft of resources: articles, book publishers, magazine publishers, writing courses, manuscript marketing, reviews and a free newsletter.
  • Booktrusted.com has pages on: Advice for parents, Recommended books, Book events, Book news, and much more. Also lists bookshops specialising in childrens’ books.
  • This site was founded by Anne Wood, originator of The Telly Tubbies. The site declares its “main role is to act as the umbrella organisation for local autonomous Children's Book Groups all around the UK. The Book Groups organise a variety of activities in their localities, often in conjunction with, or in support of, their local schools and libraries.”
  • Distance learning courses (they are based in Canada) on all aspects of writing, but have a course specifically for children’s writers. They say: "the writing school will teach you how to write creatively and how to market your work. you can succeed as a writer."
  • SmartWriters.com offers professional writers and illustrators a host of resources, including market lists, interviews, book reviews, publisher contacts, professional writers directory, promotional tips, and much more.
